Commonwealth Day

Commonwealth Day

Each year, the Queen attends celebrations of Commonwealth Day in London. Since 1977, Commonwealth Day was celebrated throughout the Commonwealth, the second Monday in March.

Queen attends an interfaith service held at Westminster Abbey, followed by a reception hosted by the Secretary General of the Commonwealth.

Modern communications technology allows the Queen to speak to all parts of the Commonwealth through its annual Christmas and Commonwealth messages.

Messages are delivered by the Queen as Head of the Commonwealth for the peoples of the Community as a whole. They are special because they reflect the personal opinions of Her Majesty and are not written by the Council of Ministers.
