Holi Powder - How to make Natural colours:

Color Green Dry:

Use mehendi / henna powder, separately or mixed with an equal amount of flour adapted to attain all a lovely shade of green.

Make use only pure mehendi and not mixed with the amla (to be applied on the hair) because it would be brown. Dry mehendi will not leave color on your face because it can be easily scanned. Only when there is a paste (ie it is mixed in water) leave a light color on your face. Thus, it can be used as a pucca / fast color.

Many people love the hair burrs person with other colors. What would you do with mehendi powder and saving a trip to the parlor?

Other methods

Dry leaves and finely Gulmohur (Delonix regia) tree green.

Wet color


Mix two teaspoons of mehendi in one liter of water. Mix well.

The green color can also be obtained by mixing a fine paste of leaves like spinach / palak, coriander / Dhaniya, mint / pudina, tomato leaves, etc. in water.

Yellow dry

Mix two teaspoons of haldi / turmeric powder with double quantity of besan (chickpea flour). Haldi and besan are extremely healthy for our skin, and are also widely used as ubtan while taking bath.

You can use the ordinary haldi or "Kasturi" haldi which is very fragrant and has enhanced therapeutic effects. Besançon can be substituted by atta, maida, rice flour, arra rot (peanut) powder, fuller's earth (multani mitti) and even talcum powder.

Another method


Flowers like Amaltas (Cassia fistula), Marigold / Gainda (Tagetus erecta), yellow chrysanthemums, Black Babul (Acacia arabica) produce different shades of yellow. Dry the petals of these flowers in shade and crush them to a fine powder. Mix the appropriate amount of powder with besan, etc. or use separately.

Dry the rind of the fruit Bael (Aegle marmelos) and grind to a powder yellow.

Wet color


Add a teaspoon of haldi to two liters of water and mix well. It can be boiled to increase the concentration of color and further diluted.

Soak Amaltas (Cassia fistula) or Marigold / Gainda (Tagetus erecta) flowers in water. Boil and leave overnight.

Dry red color

Red Sandal Wood Powder / Raktachandan / Lalchandan (Pterocarpus santalinus) has a beautiful red color, is extremely beneficial for the skin and is used in face masks, etc. This can be used instead of Red Gulal.

Dry red hibiscus flowers in shade and powder to make a beautiful red color. To increase the volume add the flour to the Sinduria called annatto English has shaped fruit which contains water chestnut seeds beautiful red brick. These give two colors dry and wet.

Color wet


Put 2 teaspoons of red sandal wood powder in one liter of water and boil. Dilute and use.

Red pomegranate peels boiled in water give red.

For a bright orange-red, mix a pinch of chuna / lime powder (that we eat with our paan / betel leaves) with 2 tbsp Haldi / turmeric powder and a few drops of water. Use only diluted with 10 liters of water.

Extraction of red flower petals


Buras (Rhododendron arboreum) known Burans in Garhwal hills and the sounds in the Kumaon Hills gives a beautiful red color when soaked in water overnight.
The red hibiscus flowers soaked in water overnight give a red which also has medicinal properties.

The Madar Palita / Pangri / Indian Coral tree / (Erythrina indica), found commonly in coastal regions, has large red flowers. Soak the flowers in water overnight.
Boil wood of Madder Tree in water for a deep red.

The red color can also be obtained from tomato juice and carrots. It can be diluted with sufficient water to remove stickiness.

Blue color dry

Jacaranda flowers can be dried in the shade and ground to a powder blue beautiful. The flowers bloom in summer.

Color wet

Crush the berries (fruits) Indigo plant and add water to the desired color intensity. In some species, the leaves when Indigo boil in water to obtain a rich blue.

Magenta color wet

Cut or grate a beetroot. Soak in 1 liter of water for a wonderful magenta. Boil or leave overnight for a darker shade. Dilute.

Boil the peels of onions rose from 10 to 15 in half a liter of water for an orange-pink color. Remove peels before use to remove the odor.

Soak Kachnar (Bauhinia variegata) flowers (pink variety) in water overnight or boil for a pinkish color.

Saffron color wet

Boil flower petals of the red variety of Semul / Silk Cotton (Bombax ceiba) in water.

Brown Color wet


Kattha (Acacia catechu), that consumed in a pan, when mixed with water gives a brownish color.

Coffee or tea leaves in boiling water. Cool and use.

Color Black wet

Boil the dried fruit of Amla / Indian Gooseberry in an iron vessel and leave overnight. Dilute with water and use.

Extract the juice of black grapes and dilute with sufficient water to remove the viscosity
