Gangasagar Mela 2013,Sagar Gnaga Island in West Bengal:


Ganga Sagar Mela, also known as Ganga Sagar Ganga Snan Yatra or, is the annual gathering of Hindu pilgrims take holy dip in the Ganges River before it merges into the Bay of Bengal sea during Makar Sankranti to island or Sagardwip Sagar in West Bengal, India. Ganga Sagar Mela 2013 Date is 14 January.

Gangasagar fair begins a few days earlier and ends on the day of Sankranti. Hindu pilgrims from India and around the world arrive at Sagar Island to take a holy dip in the sacred waters of the Ganges before it merges into the Bay of Bengal.

Thousands of Hindus take holy dip at the right time morning Makar Sankranti day and offer prayers to Lord Surya (the sun god). The sacred bath is supposed to wash away sins and lead to the attainment of Moksha.
After performing Ganga Snan, pilgrims visit the Temple Kapilmuni around. It is an ancient temple and is unique in its kind in India.

The faithful began to arrive in the first week of January and the place attracts maximum pilgrims on the day of Makar Sankranti.

Accommodation for pilgrims is expected to transit camps set up on the island of Sagar.
